Resort

History of Resort
The concept of leisure resorts is not a product of the modern age, but in fact resorts have been in existence for many centuries. Historically, the oldest resorts can be traced back to the Roman empire of nearly two thousand years ago.

The ancient Romans created a public leisure facility known as Baths that could be used by both men and women separately. Gradually the baths evolved from their modest structure to include more extravagant facilities such as a gym, a library, restaurant, stores, lounge, tavern and even a museum and a theater. These baths were utilized for health, recreation and social enjoyment.

In Europe the earliest spa resort was developed in Belgium in the fourteenth century in a town that is now known by the name of Spa. It was believed that the natural waters of this town were rich in iron and other minerals that had miraculous healing properties. That led to the popularity of this resort.

In the seventeenth century, resorts and spas became popular in Britain with King Charles II leading the trend by visiting various resorts for relaxation and enjoyment. Even till now celebrities and famous personalities set the trends by patronizing the choicest resorts.

The nineteenth century saw the development of exclusive resort facilities offering more privacy to the visitors. The wealthy people wished for private resort facilities and Switzerland's resort industry realized the lucrative business prospects of this idea.

One must also understand that it was an era when transportation costs were very high, and travel itself was a time-consuming and difficult exercise. Therefore, particularly the wealthy people preferred to go on a long vacation to make the most of their visit, and at the same time it achieved the best value for money to stay at a resort for longer periods, usually ranging from a few weeks up to a few months.

The fact that resorts came to be used by visitors for longer stays, resulted in more home-like facilities being added to the resorts, such as a partial kitchen attached to your room, and more spacious rooms to facilitate a more comfortable stay. Initially, the resorts were built as places to provide respite from extreme weathers in the home places. But with the passage of time, sports activities, amusement parks and casinos began to be added to the resorts in order to position the resorts as an all-year round attraction.

In North American countries the earliest resorts were developed at the starting of the nineteenth century. The first resorts were created in Virginia and New York. Soon afterwards, the concept of Beach Resorts became immensely popular. The sea became a great place of recreation and beautiful beach resorts mushroomed all over North America and the Caribbean. Jungle resorts also became popular as the governments tried to conserve the wildlife and organized tourism in such a way that it promoted adventure tours to the wild, without harming the flora and fauna of the region.

SUMMARY: Resorts have come a long way from the olden days when a resort was small and modest in size and luxury. But the modern resorts are highly luxurious and offer the latest amenities for enjoyment.

What is a resort?
"Set the tropical heaven of a paradise, tranquil and comforting to the sense and feel your stress ebb away as you relax in a paradise, and let yourself be lulled away for a totally rejuvenating session."

A Resort is a living spa in the old fashioned sense of the world. It is a beautiful destination that caters to your needs and desires, in a peacefully placed environment. One can't help wonder about the history and heritage behind a resort on a visit. Many resorts have been restored and refurbished to portray rural life, which is temporarily interrupted by modern services that blend very well together. While on the outside, guests can enjoy the salt water lap pool, daily yoga classes, spa treatments, other resort activities and organic meals. Most resorts are combined with the culture, art and traditions of the area. Offerings vary from the traditional massage to water flow therapy, body scrubs and buffs, to some non-traditional spiritual and interactive consultations.

We know the saying 'all things in moderation' only too well, however with today's hectic, modern lifestyle it can be easy to loose control of our priorities, and often it is balance between work and play that we all seek. Lose this balance and we lose sight of our well being! Spending time at a resort or a spa may sometimes feel like an indulgence when compared with the other essentials that demand our time. But it is always a good option if you want to regain the balance in your life and relieve your stresses and apprehensions.

From the moment the guests arrive, they will be greeted with a friendly welcome officer, who will consult each guest individually to ensure their stay is custom made for their complete comfort, convenience and peace of mind. To complement the peaceful settings, the resort helps you enjoy a range of treatments inspired by nature, to nurture the mind, body and sprit.

Spread out before you would be the most exotic, most beautiful wonders of mother earth, making you feel that there is no culture, history, tradition, design and ethnic beauty than what you see, in any other part of the world. Add to this the incredible geographic diversity, warm seas and tropical climate, and its easy to understand why many people from around the globe now migrate to these magnificent places, building exotic tropical retreats and retirement homes.

Resorts are created to enhance your health and wellbeing by embracing the powerful healing quality of nature. It seams that the energy of the universe surrounds you, when you are in such an environment. It is a place where the natural environment blends harmoniously with the area's local culture. Residents will find themselves living a truly ideal lifestyle with wonderful facilities to make them feel luxurious and a service to match their surroundings. A complete resort property is equal to an operational boutique luxury hotel associated to the leading small hotels of the world.

There is no better way to enjoy good things in life than literally stepping into a luxury resort, which offers a spectacular setting with an incomparable view. Resorts offer the glorious splendor of sun, sand and sea, swaying in perfect harmony, with all the comforts and luxuries found in a world -class hotel.

Summery: A resort is a place that offers all the modern luxuries and a blending of these luxuries with natures' splendor, along with various other spa and recreational facilities, providing an ideal getaway for holidaying.]

Nagarkot Farmhouse Resort

INTRODUCTION
Nagarkot Farmhouse ResortConceived by Sambhu K. Lama and Sabine Lehmann of Hotel Vajra, Nagarkot Farmhouse Resort is a creation of a place of serenity. A renovated old newar house with raised ceiling, tiled floor and a fireplace, it is a place from where you can experience Nepal's natural heritage. It has a cozy dining hall with an open fireplace, where you can sit, read, play, look at the mountains or simply chat with the Manager or his crew.
There are four rooms with common bath and four with attached and four deluxe rooms. Heaters with radiator systems are fitted for the winter season. This panorama is the hallmark of Nagarkot Farmhouse. On a clear morning dawn unveils a vista of eastern and the central Himalayan range, from towering Manaslu to the distant pyramid of Mt. Everest.
The Nagerkot Farmhouse Resort  is a great place to escape from Kathmandu for a weekend! The rooms are comfortable and clean, the restaurant/lounge is very cozy , the grounds are beautifully landscaped and the view is stunning. Request a room in one of the lower sections if you can -- they're bigger and have better views. The hotel staff recommended a lovely walk that took us through some villages and fields, rather than to the watch tower that most people go up up to when they visit Nagarkot. The tranquility of the Farm House at Nagarkot is a welcome break from Kathmandu. While the last few hundred metres of the road to the Farm House can be difficult after rain it is well worth the effort. The welcoming staff, the beautiful rooms with stunning views of Everest on a clear day, the surrounding orchards and the wonderful walks available make this a very special place. There was something magical about watching the eagles soaring in the valleys below as you sat eating one of the beautifully prepared meals.
